Transponder Key Technology is used in many Vehicle regarding access and is pretty much
standard in most Vehicles
How it works?
A small Transponder chip is embedded into your Vehicle Key. When inserted into the ignition the Chip is energized by a radio frequency sent from the ignition barrel. Once the Chip is Energized it emits a code which is received and sent to the Vehicle ECU (Electronic Control Unit), also known as the Computer or Brain. If the code is correct the Immobilizer of the vehicle is then disabled and will allow the car to Start. If not, the vehicle will remain immobilized. Depending on the Vehicle or the immobilizer system this may be by cutting off voltage to the Starter Motor, the Spark Plugs, or the fuel Nuzzles, or a combination or all three.
If you suspect your key Transponder Chip may be faulty then always try the Spare key/s. Another issue can also be with the Transponder receiver in the ignition barrel - this should not be overlooked.
Where is the Transponder chip?
If your Vehicle Key has no opening parts you may think you don't have a Chip in it - not true, it can be embedded within the plastic Shell of the key. On many remote control keys, the key can be opened and the Transponder Chip can be accessed. The Transponder Chip does not require a battery to energize except Electronics Transponders.

Car Won't Start?
If your Car won't start then it could be due to your Vehicle's Immobilizer System. The following is the best way to isolate the problem. Check the VERY obvious below to know the Symptoms of Vehicle Immobilizer faults.
If the Engine occasionally starts and keeps shutting down in less than 3 seconds interval?
If the Engine won't crank over (no sound when turn key to Start) or the starter motor just continues to turn but the Engine won't fire?
Many modern Vehicles do have an Immobilizer warning light (usually a sign of key icon on the Dashboard Cluster). But some Vehicles will not have this warning light and if the immobilizer is not factory fitted then the light will not come on.
Do the following:
- Lock up the vehicle using the remote if equipped and open again. This may reset the immobilizer. Then try and start the vehicle.
- Next, find any Spare key/s and try them. If the problem is from the Transponder Key the Registered Key/s can carry on the task successfully, although this does not rule out the Immobilizer Problem.
- Disconnect the Vehicle battery for 5 to 10 minutes, reconnect and then try starting the Vehicle. Again this may reset the Immobilizer/ECU (But not for all Vehicle).
If all this fails then further investigation will be required by a Specialist.
Depending on the vehicle the immobilizer system may employ any combination or all of the above.
If the Starter Motor is turning then the usual course of action Technician would take is to see if the Plugs are Sparking or that Fuel is being pumped out from the Nuzzles. Of course the problem could be totally unrelated to the immobilizer and be a faulty fuel pump or ignition system or just a wire unplugged or Starting Sensor Failure but most Technicians would still go about diagnosing the fault in this way. Alternatives are System Diagnosis which an Engineer would plug into the Vehicle Diagnostic socket with Specialist Equipment and then be able to check all systems in the vehicle as well as any fault codes that may have been logged. These Diagnostic Systems can make Troubleshooting easier.
